Leaving Christendom for the Kingdumb Hall
by gone for good inmost of us old timers left behind a stable, respected, religious heritage in our disillusioned haste to join a stupid cult.. as i recall, there was no rite of dissociation required - no reason offered to your church, no resignation required - it was a non-event from the dubs viewpoint.
what was your experience?
were you expected to do or say anything as you abandoned your spiritual heritage to become a drone in the watchtower hive?.

My mother and father were both raised Catholics, and my mom told me when they became witnesses they had to write a letter to the church to disassociate themselves. I was also baptized a Catholic as a infant, my parents converted when I was about 3, so maybe I'm still counted as a Catholic? -

Very good points OneEyedJoe. To go along with your point of elders trying to pry an hour out of publishers so they're not irregular/inactive-when i stopped turning in time, the elder I was supposed to turn my time to, just put down an hour for me without even asking! He is a friend so he was basically just covering for me
I do think if the number of anointed keeps going up something has to be done. Choices are- stop counting them, make it so a co or somebody has to give the ok to officially count them, or fudge the numbers, which I don't think they could do. If/when the number gets to 20,000+ something has to be done

Jw are moving from Door to Door realizing it is ineffective
by thedepressedsoul injw have announced that they will no longer be doing door to door as they have realized that the door to door salesman is on a decline.. now they will be putting all of their effort into cold calling via a telephone as they feel this will be more effective means to reach people.
jw call centers will be set up at local kingdom halls so that all jw will now reach out to people via a hard copy of the yellow pages and white pages.
they have seen the success of telemarketers and can't wait to try out this new and revolutionary way to reach people via a telephone.

jw.org cart days numbered?
by jookbeard inreading a report of an elder in a friends cong has been hiding and spying on the pioneers who seem to have a practise of dumping the cart and finding a local coffee shop, i've noticed that they do this in my local high street as well but this week they seemed to be all huddled around the cart, they've clearly been warned, a vast percentage of the time i see they seem to be more interested in fiddling with their mobile phones and gossiping, is just seems these carts are a means for the pioneers to turn in "easy time" i wonder what sort of figures show how much literature is being taken by the public?
i bet its very minimal.
naturally the gb would say they are a phenomenal success , we clearly know they are not.

In the area of the u.s. I live, a large liberal city in the pacific northwest, the carts seem to place some literature but that's about it. We had a meeting part asking for experiences some months back and they all were "a person took some magazines!!!" It just seems like a pretty gravy way to get in some time, without having to do much. -

Feeling indifferent
by campaign of hate inright now, at this point in my life, i feel like i should be angry, sad, upset, annoyed, whatever emotion that most of you guys here feel or have felt.. but the overwhelming feeling i get, and i have got since waking up, is indifference.. i think that this might be my subconscious coping mechanism.
when i go to the meetings or take part in any other wt related activity, i don't care.
i just really couldn't care less.. i mean, i do care, but i think it's more a fascination now about the whole thing.

I'm not sure what a normal response is to finding out you were in a cult. For myself I would say I feel exactly like the opening post. Not sure if that's normal but I agree with you.
cappytan- if you're exploring Buddhism may I recommend the book The Good Heart, A Buddhist Perspective On The Teachings Of Jesus by the Dalai Lama. it really helped me grasp some of the teachings of Buddhism, and is a very good read.

To all anointed wannabe losers, DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT, OR ELSE!!!!!
by DATA-DOG inonce again the beloved and loving governing body are demonstrating their utmost disdain for the rank and file members of the jehovah church.
let us review this interesting trend, starting with some facts!
yay, facts!!!

If they're so concerned about the rising number of ones partaking, why don't they just shoot out an BOE letter scolding the elders to be very discerning about who to officially count as partaking. That would seem to at least lower the number or slow the growth at worst. -

a situation I know of and the mind set of the elders.
by joe134cd inok here's the situation i know of.. a women was in a situation where she was forced to reveal a hidden sin and was given a private reproof for it.
before this she had an other wise clean slate.
btw the reproof was for an unrelated matter and had nothing to do with apostasy.

I'd say I pretty much agree with all the comments. She'll probably get a call just before or after the c.o. visit. unless somebody asks/tells/bothers the elders to check up on her, they'll just leave her alone. -

Pick your belief system
by Giordano ini think we've all noticed a ton of newbe's these past months.
one part of escaping or thinking about escaping the jw's is coming to terms with what you believe now and/or what direction you are leaning towards.. here is a site that has a quick quiz that may be of some worth or just for fun.
i took it when i first signed on here and the results surprised me because it was pretty accurate.. you don't have to sign up for anything and when you finish you will get a percentage answer on 20 major belief systems.

100% secular humanism. I have done this quiz in the past, I answered so that I would get 100% JW, then showed it to some other witnesses and asked them to take it. Every single witness I sent that to wouldn't take the quiz. It was like they were scared that they wouldn't get jw. Just further reinforces that witnesses, for the most part, really don't know what they believe. -

New JW Bible at the used book store already
by jws incouple of months ago, just after christmas, i was browsing the religion section at one of the local used bookstores.
i kind of keep my eye out for some of those embarrassing jw gems.
i've found a mint condition green bible there before.

My wife and I love going to old used book shops and we always stop by the religious section to check out what old jw books they have. One store we frequent often had a ton of yearbooks from the 30's through the 70's and some old Rutherford classics. They were all overpriced and I didn't want them, but then one day all of them were gone. Since all of them were probably priced around $400 total for the lot I kinda wonder who bought them all. Haven't see a new grey bible yet, have seen a new songbook and many bible teach books though. -

A Question for Underground Apostates, How Many Are There?
by Village Idiot inwhen i first came to this forum i was of the belief that those of us who were still in due to family reasons were few in numbers perhaps one in a thousand in the jws.
soon i came to the realization that there were many more.
we have dozens of posters here who are mentally out but still in.

@Village no definitely not apostasy.
